ome
places just have it all. Take Fontana Dam, NC. Named after
the largest dam ever built in the East, the town is actually
a resort
named Fontana Village. Straddling the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park & The Nantahala National Forest, the Village
has become
the cycle mecca of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
The 22 mile
stretch of NC Hwy. 28, known as the Hellbender 28, sits at
Fontana Village's front door and runs into the famous Dragon
just 8
miles up the highway. In addition to a great location, their
great
fall
festival,
the Smoky
Mountain Bike Week has spawned a twin in the spring.... The
Dam Bike Week.
With the
talent, vendors and music Fontana Village is lining up, The
2007 Dam Bike Rally promises
to be the cycle event to attend this spring. When
you're not riding, do a pontoon boat on Fontana lake or some
whitewater
rafting on the Nantahala River. Kick back at the Hellbender
28 Pitstop for a beer and a bite to eat and eyeball all the
other bikes here for the festival! In
the evenings, take
in the music and party on the green or head to the lodge
for
a
cozy
dinner. The Harrah's Casino in Cherokee and the shops in
Gatlinburg are just the other side of the National Park. No
matter what
makes you grin, the Dam Bike Rally and all the local amenties
will make this a weekend to remember.
The resort
at Fontana Village has
everything from a great mountain lodge and cabins in the
forest to camping and houseboats. So make your reservations
early for this one! The party will start May 31st and run
through
June 3rd, 2007. Get your motor runnin' and we'll see you there!
